Remember when it was safe to work in the garage. Well you don't want to be there when the garage door spring
snaps and flies off like a rocket !!!!


This is as a safety tip to prevent any damage to your street rod, family car or even you. (we like to point out that Al put
Street Rod first in the priority list )  :0)


Add a safety cable if there isn't one already. A safety cable is a roughly 3/16" braided steel cable threaded
through the center of the spring (Thinking of the spring as a tube, the cable is threaded through the tube.) and
anchored securely at each end (often to some part of the track support) and, positioned so it cannot interfere
with opening and closing the door. This cable shouldn't be taut. If the spring breaks this cable will hold the parts
, keeping them from shooting into something or somebody.

These springs break when the door is down and the spring is stretched and could cause serious injury if
you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Most of the times when they snap loose and break, you have no warning............
