EXCITEMENT BUILDING FOR ELDORADO MARDI GRAS PARADE

Eldorado townsfolk and other area residents of Nowhere are anxiously
preparing for their first annual Mardi Gras parade through downtown
Eldorado.  The parade will commence from the Hysterical District in south
Eldorado on Sunday, February 18 at 3 PM.  Entrants are expected from
throughout a one hundred mile radius of Eldorado, dubbed Nowhere because of
it's lack of characteristics matching any surrounding state geographic or
geological areas.

There is no entry fee, and any and all entrants are welcome.  Team drawn
wagons are especially invited, but decorated animals, bicycles, cars, four
wheelers, hunting vehicles, individuals, riding clubs, tractors, trailers,
trucks and floats of any kind are encouraged to participate.  Some local
merchants are dressing to the Mardi Gras theme and interest is running high
throughout the town.   There are already four times the number of entries as
participated in the Elvis parade just three weeks ago.

Pre-registration is not necessary, but participants may contact Jim Runge at
325-853-3678 or
eoboc@hotmail.com for further information.  Entrants are
asked to form at the famous park at 2:30 PM for a 3 PM kickoff.  Awards will
be presented to the most outstanding entries.  The parade will end on the
courthouse square.

PRESS RELEASE

Benton, Arkansas
December 11, 2007

Even though the World Record was NOT broken, the DIXIE CAR CLUB'S TOYS FOR TOTS Caravan held on December 2 was a huge success.  Everyone had a great time.  There were no problems at any stage start to finish and no disappointments.  Spectators were lined up along the Interstates taking photos and videos of the procession.  Many spectators viewed the vehicles in the staging area and the display area at Ray Winder Field.  Motorist traveling the interstates with the caravan slowed to look at the vehicles as they passed.

The end result and reason for the event, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program was presented over 1,000 toys.  The City of Benton's 1930 La France antique fire truck was loaded with toys as was the 1930 Model A Fire Truck from Conway.  Many of the cars had their trunks full as did several pickup trucks.

Far short of the 949 Classic Vehicles over 30 years old, only 214 vehicles over 30 years old participated in the attempt.  With a total participation of 251 Antique, Classic, Vintage & Specialty vehicles, an Arkansas State Record and a City of Benton Record for vehicles traveling a distance of 20 miles or more was set.  A challenge is issued to the clubs in Arkansas to break these records.

With Congressman Vic Snyder as Grand Marshall, it is estimated that well over 400 vehicles participated with many not turning their Participation Affidavit into the agents.  State Senator Shane Broadway and Benton Mayor Rick Holland were participating dignitaries.

From Shreveport, LA, 2 vehicles traveled 200 miles one way to participate.  They were the only participants from outside Arkansas.

The oldest car was a 1927 Ford Model T Tudor Sedan street rod.

Representatives from more than 50 car clubs participated.  The largest was the host Dixie Car Club with 51 participants.  The Rock City Cruisers had 13 cars; the Central Arkansas Corvette Club, 15; the Vilonia Cruisers, 8; the Hot Springs Cruisers,  6; CAMS Car Club, 6; the 50th Anniversary Model A Club, 5; and the North Central Arkansas Cruisers, 5.  All other Clubs had 4 or less each.

There were 88 participants not belonging to any club.  69 participants were from the City of Benton.  From Little Rock were 43; from North Little Rock, 14; Mabelvale, 14; Hot Springs, 12.  All other cities had 10 or less each.

There were 107 Chevrolets; 70 Fords; 29 Corvettes; 12 Mustangs; 14 Ford Model A's; and 38 pickup trucks.

There were 2 breakdowns.  Jones Wrecker Service provided complementary service to 1 of them.

The Dixie Car Club wishes to give special thanks to the Benton, AR Police Department, The Benton High School J.R.O.T.C. Cadets and the Saline County Sheriff Department.  Without their assistance this Caravan would have not been possible.  Thanks to all the media outlets for their support and thanks to everyone that participated.

We'll try again next year on December 8, 2007.

EOBOC PRESS RELEASE

$100 Prize for Best April Fools Day Parade Entry

The featured event of this year’s Eldorado Elgoatarod will be the April Fools Day Parade with a plethora of different entries expected commemorating this "foolish" day. Entries are being accepted from across the state, because to the knowledge of organizers, there is not a major parade for this special day anywhere in the state. There is no entry fee and the winner of the parade for the best entry of an April Fools variety will receive a $100 cash prize.

Entries may be bike units, crawling units, driving units, equine units, floats, four wheeler units, hopping units, individuals, lawn chair units, lawnmower units, rolling units, spoofs, tandem units, unicycle units, walking units or any type of entry that can be imagined. Obviously, the most unusual entry will stand the best chance of winning the $100. As entries begin to pour in, other categories of prize money will be added in order to reward all the best "creative" ideas.

Points will definitely be awarded for originality. Notice is being given early so car clubs, bands, church groups, college groups, dog clubs, drama groups, drill teams, fraternal organizations, free spirits, riding clubs, school groups, scout groups, thespians, etc. can begin putting together unique entries. No idea is too crazy, foolish, half-witted, mysterious, odd, outlandish, offbeat, off-the-wall, ridiculous, silly, strange, stupid, unusual, weird, wild, etc., although common decency must be observed. This IS a family event after all.

This is the fourth year for the Elgoatarod, which is a spoof of the Alaskan Iditarod. But the Eldorado event features goats pulling carts instead of dogs pulling sleds. New entries are always welcomed for the goat races, especially unique ones. Goats may be led for the entire race and there are no restrictions on conveyances. Past entries have included bathtubs, chariots, converted adult trikes, galactic goats, inverted dollies and even little red wagons.

Other goat contests are held throughout the weekend of April 1 & 2, such as goat pill flipping, goat kissing, stick goat racing, goat fry cook-off, goat sacking, etc. And to further emphasize the significance of the day, other foolish contests will be added of the April Fools variety. Some examples are the blindfolded washer tossing, chigger catching contest, 4 x 4 skiing races, gnat races, sack races, three legged races, Worst Elvis Impersonator contest and many more.

Last year’s event drew 3000 spectators and fifty vendors but with the addition of Saturday’s April Fools Day parade, the numbers are expected to swell. The parade will begin at 2 PM with some entries beginning to line up as early as noon on that day. Any person or group wishing to enter or find out more about the parade, goat races or any of the contests should contact Jim Runge at eoboc@hotmail.com or 325-226-2890.

PRESS RELEASE
Start planning NOW!!!
Mark your calendar.

Benton, Arkansas
January 24, 2006

To all Arkansas Car Clubs.

In an effort to assemble the "largest antique, classic, vintage, street rod, street machine, hot rod" car caravan ever held in the State of Arkansas, the Dixie Car Club is asking all Clubs to join us in our 4th Annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Caravan December 2, 2006.  This event receives a tremendous amount of radio, television & printed publicity and should benefit your Club by giving exposure to persons wishing to join your Club.  By making this a record setting event, additional publicity should become available.

With more than 80 cars participating in the 2005 event, in addition to the Dixie Car Club, were the Central Arkansas Corvette Club, CAMS Car Club, the PT Cruiser Club, the Rock City Cruisers Car Club, the Arkansas Travelers Car Club , the 50th Anniversary Model A Club, and the British Car Club.  I'm certain that there were others of which I was not notified.   Please bring this event to the attention of your Club members and ask that they join us.  It is suggested that your Club have a banner or other means of identification so the public can recognize your Club and acknowledge your participation.  Your club may wish to caravan from your meeting place to the departure site in Benton.   I am asking especially that the M.O.T.A.A. affiliate clubs participate as well as those that participated last year.

Because of shear volume, the motorcycle clubs have been receiving most of the publicity - let's take some of it.   Tentative acknowledgments of planned participation has been received from several members of the Porsche Club of Arkansas, the Arkansas Travelers Car Club, the Rock City Cruisers, Cams Car Club and the 50th Anniversary Model A Club.  Please don't wait.  Let's get started early on this great event so the necessary plans can be initiated.   Additional information may be obtained regarding this event by calling George Beyers at (501) 776-1399.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the Antique, Vintage, Classic & Specialty vehicles will assemble in the T.C.B.Y. parking lot in Benton on Saturday, December 2, 2006. This is directly behind "Colton's Steak House" at the Eastbound 118 Exit of Interstate 30.   With a Saline County Sheriff escort, the caravan will leave from there at 10:00 a.m. and will head North on the Interstate 30 Service Road until it intersects Interstate 430. The caravan will travel onto Interstate 430 and exit onto Interstate 630. It will then travel Interstate 630 to the Fair Park exit and turn North on Fair Park to "Toy Hill", located between the Little Rock Zoo entrance and Ray Winder Field.   The caravan will travel at approximately 45 - 50 m.p.h. (dependent upon the slowest vehicle).  Arrival at "Toy Hill" will be approximately 10:45 a.m.

Anyone with an old car or truck (whether it be an original, street rod or hot rod) is invited to join us at T.C.B.Y. or at any point along the way.  Efforts will be made to notify as many old car owners as possible between now and then so we will have a good turnout.  MOTAA members, Arkansas Travelers Car Club, 50th Anniversary Model A Club, Metropolitan Car Club and all others - join us, the Dixie Car Club, in this charity event. Let's have a GREAT showing.

With your assistance, many more will join us along the way.  Travelers along the way and those attending "Toy Hill" will certainly enjoy seeing our vehicles - that's why we have them.   It will be a pleasure for us to participate and appreciate any assistance you can give us to bolster the participation of old cars.  Press Releases will be issued to the local TV stations, Arkansas Democrat Gazette and the Benton Courier.  Hopefully they will assist us with advertising.  Bob Robbins of KSSN 96 FM will be making "On Air" announcements periodically and will be contacted by cell phone when the caravan leaves Benton and progress reports will be given along the way.

The ONLY COST - a new, unwrapped $10 toy.  TELL YOUR FRIENDS!!!

With membership of approximately 125 families, the DIXIE CAR CLUB, a non-profit Social Club, meets the 1st Thursday of each month at Brown's Country Store & Restaurant - 18718 Interstate 30 - Benton, AR 72015; Phone number (501) 778-5033. That's Interstate 30 Westbound Exit #118. Members and guests arrive at 6:00 P.M. for dinner (Dutch treat). A short meeting convenes at 7:00 P.M.   DIXIE Car Club members enjoy their vehicles, whether a Show Car or a Driver. Over the past 27 years the Club has held picnics, tours and shows as continued enjoyment of the Antique, Classic and Vintage cars & trucks of the members.

To maintain interest and enjoyment of the members and the local community, a monthly event is sponsored by a Club member.  These events include:

·          Club Picnics & Cook-outs.
·          Visits to many of the local attractions and restaurants.
·          An annual Christmas Party.
·          Various fund-raising activities allow contributions to many local charitable organizations.
·          Participation in many of the area car shows.

Members of the DIXIE CAR CLUB have entered many local, regional and national events with excellent results.

Anyone with a love of Antique, Classic or Vintage vehicles is invited to visit and/or join. You'll be welcomed by a group of nice people.   Additional information regarding the Club can be found at http://clubs.hemmings.com/dixiecarclub/  or by calling George Beyers at (501) 776-1399.
